CNC Machine Shop Website Checklist
This is a go-through-it-yourself checklist for a CNC shop owner or team member auditing their own website. It's organized into five categories — technical, content, RFQ conversion, trust signals, and mobile — so you can work through it section by section and note what's already in place versus what still needs attention. For depth on any single item, the linked guides below cover the how, not just the what.
How to Use This Checklist
Open your own website in a separate tab and work through each category below, item by item. Don't worry about doing every category at once — most shops find it more productive to tackle one section (often RFQ conversion or technical health) completely before moving to the next. If an item doesn't apply to your business — a certification you don't hold, for example — just skip it.
1. Technical Checklist
- Site loads over HTTPS with no browser security warnings.
- An XML sitemap exists and is submitted in Google Search Console.
- robots.txt isn't accidentally blocking pages you want indexed.
- Page load speed is reasonable on both desktop and mobile connections.
- Every page has a unique title tag and meta description — no duplicates.
- Structured data (Organization, LocalBusiness, Service schema) is implemented.
- No broken links or 404 errors on primary navigation paths.
- URLs are clean and readable, not strings of parameters or IDs.
2. Content Checklist
- A dedicated page exists for each core process (milling, turning, 5-axis, etc.), not one paragraph covering all of them.
- Materials you regularly run (aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, plastics) are named as actual text, not only in photo captions.
- An About/Company page with real, specific details — not just a stock paragraph about "precision and quality."
- A capabilities page listing equipment, axis count, tolerances, and typical part size range.
- Certifications (ISO 9001, AS9100, ITAR, etc.) are listed on their own page or section, if applicable to your shop.
- Examples of past work — the shop's own project photos or descriptions — are shown somewhere on the site.
- An FAQ page or section addresses common buyer questions (lead times, minimum order size, file formats accepted).
3. RFQ Conversion Checklist
- A "Request a Quote" or equivalent CTA is visible on every page, not buried in a submenu.
- A dedicated RFQ/quote page exists, separate from a generic "Contact Us" page.
- The quote form accepts file uploads for drawings (STEP, PDF, DXF, or similar).
- The form only asks for information you actually need to respond — long forms lose submissions.
- Phone number and email are visible in the header on every page, not just the footer.
- A response-time expectation is stated somewhere near the quote form (e.g. "we respond within one business day").
- A confirmation or thank-you message appears after a quote request is submitted, so the buyer knows it went through.
4. Trust Signal Checklist
- Relevant certifications are displayed prominently, if your shop holds them.
- Industries served (aerospace, medical, automotive, defense, etc.) are listed clearly.
- Real photos of your shop floor and equipment are used — not generic stock imagery.
- A physical address is listed, and it's consistent with your directory and Google Business Profile listings.
- Years in business, team size, or other concrete facts are included somewhere, if you have them to share.
- Any genuine customer testimonials or reviews you have permission to use are included.
- Association memberships (NTMA, PMPA, regional manufacturing groups, etc.) are listed, if applicable.
5. Mobile Checklist
- The site is fully usable on a phone without pinching or zooming.
- Buttons and links are large enough to tap accurately with a thumb.
- Forms use appropriate mobile keyboards (numeric for phone number, email keyboard for email).
- Tables, drawings, or wide images don't overflow off the edge of the screen.
- The phone number in the header is a tap-to-call link.
- The navigation menu opens and closes cleanly on mobile.
- The quote CTA is reachable without excessive scrolling on a phone screen.
